Since the introduction of Thingclash in 2015, we’ve run multiple iterations and versions of the workshop, each time refining our process for the surfacing of interesting impacts and implications of an IoT systems and cultures.
Over the course of the workshops we’ve had groups of participants telling their Thingclash stories through spontaneously created fictional scenarios. Contexts extended into worlds, personas fleshed out into characters. These stories are a powerful means of communicating potential frictions in the Internet of Things, but they often don't escape the context of the workshop
On December 1st we return to Thingscon NL in Amsterdam by invitation with a new iteration of the workshop. This extended session led by Sjef van Gaalen and Susan Cox-Smith is geared towards not only generating the Thingclash narratives, but giving our participants some tools and strategies to further shape their them as stories—speculative frictions in the plausible near-now. These stories will be collected and distributed in a zine to be made available online, and distributed on day 2 of the conference.
