"Teacher of Algorithms"

This short film by Simone Rebaudengo, who ran a workshop at Thingscon in Berlin this past weekend, is a great, sly take on the relationships between people and so-called smart devices. Set in China, where Simone is currently based, the film's protagonist consults a teacher of algorithms—an appliance whisperer of sorts—to correct a misbehaving coffeemaker. As the wise machine-wrangler opines, the problem isn't always with the machines, but in people's relationships with them. Enjoy.
